mothers day irony

I'm linking up with my bestie, Casey Wiegand, today for "on your heart." Check out her inspiring blog. Follow her on facebook or twitter. You will be so happy you did!

With all the talk this week surrounding mothers day, I got to thinking...and being asked, "what do you want for mothers day?"

I hear a lot of moms say things like...I want to sleep in, I dont want to change any diapers, I want a day of shopping, alone...etc.

Basically, I hear moms say they don't want to take part in the very things that make them mothers. That's strange to me. Don't get me wrong, I love sleeping in, not changing diapers, and shopping alone is much more productive. But, on mothers day, I find myself not wanting to even sleep in. I tried last year. As I lay in bed, I just thought about my sweet baby and how I was missing out on morning snuggles - my favorite! So I got up. I savored each thing that made me a mother. And I plan to do the same this year.

Enjoy your children on mothers day. So many women are longing to be sleep deprived, to change the worst of diapers, and to never shop alone again. This mothers day, I also want to spend time in prayer for those women whose hearts ache to be mothers. I encourage all of you to do the same. Motherhood is a gift and on mothers day, I'm reminded to give back. To offer something in exchange for this gift. Even if that's just extra prayers or an encouraging message to a friend or putting aside all the chores to spend quality time with the man who helped me become a mommy and with the baby who now calls me mommy (finally!!).

Happy mothers day to all the moms in my life. And to the greatest mom of all - my mom!

Mom, you are my best friend, my role model, my wisdom and advice. You are such a strength in my life. Thank you for always showing me what's important in raising my child (and taking care of other people's children). Your advice and guidance is priceless - the most precious gift you could ever give! Thank you. I love you!
